The Norfolk County Petanque Association Thursday Evening League has now finished. In Division 1 the Wombats and Hawks maintain their place finishing 4th and 6th respectively. In Division 2 Dolphins are promoted as champions while Wildcats were relegated. The Wallabies in Division 3 finished in 5th place.

Tournaments promoted by the Club proved to be popular yet again with the Club hiring the only indoor facility in the country at Whittlesey and running a triples competition in March. The winners of the Whittlesey tournament were a team from the Southern Region of Graham Elcome, Gemma Stretfield and Dean Seville, runners up were Phil Hitchens, Theresa Hitchens and Peter Ward from Whittlesey and third were the Sprowston team of Glen Fusco, Keith Burgess and Glenn Harcourt.

The Russell Harris Fun Pairs was won by Chris Cunningham and Michael Neal of Bury St Edmunds with Bob and Chloe Urquhart runners up, third Dean Hill and Lynne Urquhart and fourth Amee Kennett and James Urquhart.

The Nine Boule Triples was again won by Geoff and Rob Booth and Russell Brewis from Kent, runners up Tony Desposito, Richard Green (Norwich) and Paul Critten (Sprowston), 3rd Chris Cunningham, Peter Griffiths and Michael Neal from Bury St Edmunds and 4th Andy and Tania Cowlin with Martin Cobbold from Stowmarket.

The Circle in the Sand Pairs was won by Chris Cunningham and Michael Neal from Bury St Edmunds runners up were Fred and Rob Booth from Kent, 3rd Glen Harcourt (Sprowston) and Eric Whatling (Norwich) and 4th Dave Smith and Lindsay Penny from Diss.

Congratulations to Chloe and James Urquhart who partnered Chris Peel from Red Lodge to win the English Petanque Association Junior Triples Championship and are flying out on Thursday 20th October to Antalya, Turkey to represent England at the FIPJP Junior World Championships on Friday 21st October to Sunday 23rd October.

Chloe and James with Jessica Shoesmith and Josh Wilcox represented the English Petanque Association in a match against Wales at Cardiff which England won 19-5.

At the National Inter Regional Tournament held at Brean Sands the Club had five members representing the Anglia Region in Division 1 and six members in the Challenge team. Several Club members also represented the Norfolk County at an away match against Leicestershire and a home match against Chiltern.

The Anglia Region AGM is on Monday 31st October (nominations and motions must be sent in by 11th October) and the Norfolk County AGM is on Monday 14th November both at the Bob Carter Centre commencing 8.00pm.

Thanks to all individuals who have served the Committee and others who have maintained the facilities this year.

Attached is notice of our Annual General Meeting if anybody has any suggestions or ideas for the forthcoming season please let me know and they can be discussed under Any Other Business.

Club Newsletter 27th March 2011

Maintenance Day
We are holding a maintenance day on Saturday 9th April at 10.30am. Please try and attend as more hands make light work. It would be helpful if you could bring trowels and forks.

Just a few quick reminders:-

Thursday 31st March – Practice matches between our Thursday Night Teams the Dolphins, Hawks, Wallabies, Wildcats and Wombats

Norfolk County Petanque Association Handbooks with fixtures and competitions will be handed out on this night. The league commences the following Thursday 7th April.

Friday 1st April – First practice night of the new season 7.00-7.30pm onwards

Allcomers Triples at Whittlesey Indoor Bouleodrome
Following a good response on Club renewals we have booked the Whittlesey Indoor Bouleodrome for Sunday 6th March and are holding a triples competition. Registration from 9.30am for a 10.30am start. Pre entry required.

 If you are an individual wanting to play please let me know and I will advise of others in similar situations.

Practice Sessions
There will be a practice match between Thursday League teams and this is on Thurday 31st March 7.30pm start.

Practice nights proved to be popular on Friday evenings and will start again on Friday 1st April.

Club Competitions
The Club are promoting the following tournaments for this year:-

Sunday 6th March – Allcomers Indoor Triples at Whittlesey Indoor Bouleodrome Registration from 9.30am onwards 10.30am start. There will be 5 timed 60 minute games.

Saturday 7th May – Russell Harris Fun Pairs in aid of the Jackson Robinson Fund http://www.jacksonrobinsonfund.co.uk/ at the St Faiths Centre 12.30 registration 1.00pm start

Saturday 2nd July – Nine Boule Triples at the St Faiths Centre 12.30 registration 1.00pm start

Sunday 14th August – Circle in the Sand Pairs at Bacton/Walcott beach 10.15 registration 10.45 start

Anglia Region Qualifiers
Anglia Region qualifiers will be held on Sunday 10th April at the St Faiths Centre and Sunday 15th May at Bury St Edmunds. If there are 17 or more teams a third qualifier will be held on Sunday 22nd May at The Cottage. The top eight teams qualify to represent the Anglia Region in the National Inter Regional Championships on 17th and 18th September at Brean Sands. Closing date for entries is 31st March and an entry form is available to download from the Anglia website

Winter Warmer Pairs
Norwich Petanque Club are holding a Winter Warmer Pairs at the The Cottage on Sunday 20th February registration 12.00 start 12.30. Entry fee is £5.00 per pair which includes soup and a roll afterwards.
