Russell Harris Fun Pairs 2016

Considering circumstances including alternative on the day events it was pleasing that this promotion at the St Faiths Centre attracted such a good quality entry.
Prior to commencement of play a minute's silence was held in respect of David Kemp, who was sadly taken from his family and us all at such a young age. Rest in peace David.
The Russell Harris Fun Pairs is a popular event designed to create a level playing field with various bonus starts available to young players and novices. To create further uncertainty participants were requested to select a double score round prior to the official draw.
On this occasion a bonus start only applied to one entry, which suggests that not enough encouragement is given to potential newcomers.
However it did provide competitive play for those participating including Lou Desposito, Kerry McBride and Tony Desposito who recently finished third in the England Team Qualifier.
In total 18 of the participants have either represented the Anglia Region in the National Inter Regional Championship previously or are participating in this year's Anglia Region Qualifiers.
It was pleasing to note that the promoting Club accounted for 60% of the entries with British Sugar, Diss Flyers, Norwich, Bob Carter Centre, Sprowston Harriers and Shoulder of Mutton the other teams represented.
At the conclusion of tournament Les and Dianne Shilling of Diss Flyers were declared winners, with Bob and James Urquhart of the host club second, their teammates Allen Kemp and Ted Hamlin third, and Chris Cunningham with Michael Neal of British Sugar fourth.
To conclude a word of thanks to those involved in pre-planning, maintenance and organisation for the event.
The Club's next event is a Nine Boule Triples to be held at the St Faiths Centre on Saturday 18th June with registration at 12.30 for a 1.00pm start.
