Wanderers St Faiths Petanque Club attracted an excellent 23 team entry for the Russell Harris Fun Pairs, which is primarily aimed at encouraging newcomers and inexperienced players to participate with and against those who are more experienced.

This is achieved by awarding bonus starts to inexperienced players and young people in different age categories.

At commencment it was apparent that 40% of the entry were from the home club and 15% unattached, with the remaining participants from various regions of Norfolk plus a small contingent from Suffolk.

Prior to start of play and the tournament draw each team was required to select a double score round, which in effect made the end result even more uncertain.

At the conclusion it was apparent that the home club's combination of Viktoria Kovacs in her debut season and Alex Reeve were joint winners with the experienced combination of Chris Peel and Scott Hoskins from neighbouring Suffolk, both having recorded 5 wins +50 points. Chris Cunningham and Aaron Hutchinson claimed third place with 5 wins +43 points with another home club debutant Matthew Warman partnered by the experienced Derek Shoesmith claiming fourth spot with 5 wins +40 points.

Wanderers also claimed sixth place with Allen Kemp and James Urquhart recording 4 wins +38, seventh place Bob Urquhart and Josh Wilcox 4 wins +30 and eighth place with Gill Abbott partnered by another debutant Andy Bowles recording 4 wins +15.

The Club would like to express our appreciation for all the assistance received during the day.

We had a great turnout for the Nine Boule Triples in memory of David Kemp and raised £300 for the Flamingo Ward of Great Ormond Street Hospital.

It was great to see many of David's family there and David's Mum, May Kemp presented the trophies.

The eventual winners were Russell Brewis and Robert and Geoff Booth from Kent with 5 wins plus 47, runners up were Chris Cunningham, Niall Warne and Michael Neal from British Sugar with 4 wins plus 31, third place was Linda Shoesmith, Alex Reeve and John Nooney from Wanderers St Faiths with 4 wins plus 22 and 4th place were Dean Bowman, Bob and James Urquhart from Wanderers St Faiths with 4 wins plus 21.

Thanks to Louise Robinson for running the competition and everyone else who helped on the day.

We had an entry of 21 pairs for this year's Circle in the Sand at Walcott beach which attracted entries from the Chiltern and Kent region as well as Norfolk and Suffolk.

This tournament again proved popular and everyone enjoyed playing on the beach and the weather was good.

Eventual winners were Keith Burgess and Henry Marshall-Nicholls from Sprowston with 4 wins plus 24, runners-up from Chiltern region were Denise Newland and Barry Mills with 4 wins plus 22, third place with 3 wins plus 26 were Alan and Chrissy Brocket from the Chiltern region and fourth place were Mick and Janet Wicks, Norwich with 3 wins plus 21.
